Launonen, Minna: Values in the narratives of the Finnish music miracle – A perspective of educational value leadership in a music school
A public debate has been going on about Finnish music education, its past, present and future. What is happening to the famous Finnish music miracle? The question will be approached from the inside viewpoint of the people who are makers of the ‘music miracle’ in the Finnish music schools: How do they describe their experiences, how do they understand their activities? What values lie behind the education given in a music school? Practices of the music schools will also be looked at from an outside-perspective: How do music schools answer the challenges of the social framework, general cultural atmosphere and values in society? From the methodological point of view this study applies a qualitative, single case study method and the main data collection method is narrative interviews.
