Lap-dog machines: Pre-sa-uro is a sonic-literary performance intended to explore translation processes through technology. Three electroacoustic instruments/systems have been especially developed to transform and translate voice and text in real time.

The sonic-literary machines will build a bridge between technology and performer, using pre- recorded text, voice improvisation, singing, recitation, real-time sound transformation, electronically generated sound and sound spatialisation. The project was originally conceptualized as lap-machines, thought out to be played by the performer but also interact with them. During the development process the concept expanded in to three different systems that take several spatial dimensions.

Pre-sa-uro is an invented term based on a poem by Augusto de Campos (Viva vaia, 1979) that combines the Portuguese and Spanish words for Present, Past and Future. At the concert, time and space will blend together in a sonic-literary experience where the audience inhabits a non-conventional concert setup.

The project is part of Alejandro Montes de Oca’s Doctoral Artistic Research (Sibelius Academy, University of the Arts Helsinki), in a cooperation with Daniel Malpica under the project Mutanttikieltä (supported by Kone Foundation).
