Villu Jaanisoo will continue as the Professor of Sculpture

Villlu Jaanisoo has been appointed the Professor of Sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts of the University of the Arts Helsinki for a five-year term, 1 Jan 2016–31 Dec 2020.

A graduate of the Estonian Academy of Arts, Jaanisoo is renowned for his use of versatile materials in sculpture and for his interpretation of the traditions of sculpture. Some of his most famous public works include Broken Line (1996), the memorial of the victims of the M/S Estonia disaster, completed with architect Jorma Mukala and Everything is Possible (2009) at the University of Helsinki’s Viikki campus.  Jaanisoo’s work has been featured in numerous international and Finnish solo and group exhibitions and he has also curated several exhibitions, the most recent of which was Taju 2015 – JOURNEY at the Hyvinkää Art Museum.

Jaanisoo has taught at the Estonian Acaemy of Arts, as well as other institutions. He has held the chair of Professor of Sculpture at the Academy of Arts, University of the Arts Helsinki, since 2009.
