Sound and sonic art students head to Hailuoto for field course

Students from University of the Arts Helsinki’s three academies will be heading to The Hailuoto Sound Art Camp in May 8-13, held in Hailuoto, northern Finland.

SAMA (sound art and sonic arts) is a multidisciplinary course of the University of the Arts Helsinki that combines knowledge of the university’s three academies: Sibelius Academy, Academy of Fine Arts and Theatre Academy. The Hailuoto Sound Art Camp is organised in collaboration with Hai Art, a Hailuoto-based arts organization whose main practice is artistic intervention in social and public space via mixed media & sound art.

The camp is led by sound artist Antye Greie-Ripatti. Greie-Ripatti is a digital songwriter, sound composer, poet, curator and educator. The overall focus of the camp lies on sonic or inter-media work in public & social space in a remote context. The course’s program includes listening walks, nature, outdoor practice, movement, voicing and discourse.

You can follow the progress of the field course from the SAMA blog, as well as on Instagram, both of which will be updated by the participating students throughout the duration of the course.
