Research Pavilion receives additional support from the Ehrnrooth Foundation

The Louise and Göran Ehrnrooth Foundation has granted the University of the Arts Helsinki (Uniarts Helsinki) 100 000 euros as additional support for the Research Pavilion 2019. The Foundation has supported the planning and execution of the Pavilion already previously with a donation of 100 000 euros.

The Research Pavilion will be set up during the Venice Biennale in the summer of 2019 to raise the profile of the research conducted by Uniarts Helsinki and its collaboration partners in connection with the world’s most prestigious contemporary art festival. Not only that, but it also generates a new kind of operational culture in the traditional biennale context. This is the third-ever Research Pavilion.

“Uniarts Helsinki’s Research Pavilion has established its position as the hub of artistic research. We want to be involved in creating a forum that will gather the foremost international experts in artistic research together in one place”, said Uniarts Helsinki’s Rector Jari Perkiömäki.

The Research Pavilion will be open in Venice from May through the end of August. An old monastery named Sala del Camino on the island of Giudecca will serve as the venue for the events. The Pavilion will be hosting a range of exhibitions, performances and discussion sessions. One major theme will be lived reality and the related increasingly acute questions concerning our ecological conditions. The theme will be discussed by addressing problems caused by soil pollution and rapid urbanisation, for example.

Nearly fifty artist-researchers from all over the world will participate in the Research Pavilion. In addition to the Louise and Göran Ehrnrooth Foundation, Uniarts Helsinki’s collaboration partners in the project are Aalto University, Valand Academy of Arts at the University of Gothenburg, University of Applied Arts Vienna and Interlab Hongik University Seoul.
