Jorma Ollila appointed to the Board of the Sibelius Academy Foundation
Business executive Jorma Ollila has been appointed as board member of the Sibelius Academy Foundation of the University of the Arts Helsinki (Uniarts Helsinki). The new Board will begin its two-year term on 1 January 2019.
“We are extremely glad that we’ll have Jorma Ollila as a member of the Board of Uniarts Helsinki’s Sibelius Academy Foundation. I believe that with his extensive experience from the top of the business world and his wide knowledge of different fields of arts, Ollila will offer new perspectives to Uniarts Helsinki”, said Heikki Lehtonen, chair of the Uniarts Helsinki Board.
Ollila was the long-term CEO of Nokia, and he has served as Chair of the Board e.g. at Shell, Nokia, Outokumpu and Finnish Business and Policy Forum EVA. Besides his career as CEO, Ollila is also known as an art enthusiast and supporter of the arts.
“The Finnish arts education is of internationally high standard. It is important that young talents receive support in the early stages of their career and are offered diverse opportunities to improve their professional skills. With the help of Uniarts Helsinki’s Foundations, we are able to strengthen the position of young artists and build up their visibility in society”, Jorma Ollila noted.
Other members of the Board of the Sibelius Academy Foundation are Director of Investments at H.G. Paloheimo Oy Ltd and Chair of the Board Lauri Paloheimo, business executive and board professional Tom von Weymarn, Professor of International and Comparative Tax Law at the University of Helsinki Marjaana Helminen, Deputy Managing Director at Unemployment Insurance Fund and board member at LocalTapiola Real Estate Asset Management Ltd and LocalTapiola Asset Management Ltd Tapio Oksanen, and Dean of Uniarts Helsinki’s Sibelius Academy Kaarlo Hildén.
The Sibelius Academy Foundation was established in 1931, and its main purpose is to support Uniarts Helsinki’s Sibelius Academy e.g. by awarding grants to music students and by organising the Maj Lind Piano Competition. The Uniarts Helsinki Board appointed the board members in a meeting on 12 December 2018.
