Composer Giovanni Verrando visits Sibelius Academy
Our visiting professor in Composition, Giovanni Verrando will be teaching in four periods during this academic year. Each time he will give two lectures to the students on composition and music theory. The focus will be in the compositional matters, in Verrando's own methods and in contemporary orchestration.
During the last ten years Verrando has researched the changing concept of timbre and the close relationship between musical language and instruments. The results of the research work have been several compositions and the expansion into lutherie. In some of his compositions Verrando has remodelled acoustic instruments like string instruments, searched new ways to produce sound and combined electronics in orchestral sound. His next visit to the Sibelius Academy will be in December 2015.
