Special arrangements in the entrance examination

If the applicant requires special arrangements in the entrance examination because of a sensory or physical disability or other corresponding reason, they must submit an application for special arrangements to the admission office at the academy in question by the deadline specified for submitting documents for the joint application procedure. Applicants requiring special arrangements apply for the right to study in the same manner as other applicants, and they must participate in the admissions process as defined in the admissions criteria.

Applicants applying for special arrangements must submit a separate application indicating the special arrangements that are necessary for their entrance examination, along with the reasons for granting them.

To clarify the nature of the disability or illness and the need of special arrangements, the applicant must acquire a statement issued by a medical specialist or other corresponding expert and deliver it to the admissions office along with their application. To verify a case of dyslexia, a statement by a special education teacher, psychologist, or a speech therapist is sufficient. A decision by the Finnish Matriculation Examination Board about special arrangements is also sufficient to verify the need for special arrangements.

As a rule, the statement should be dated during the applicant’s general upper secondary school years or other upper secondary education. In the case of a permanent illness or disability, statements issued at an earlier date can also be considered. If a reason for special arrangements arises or is found after the application deadline during the admissions process, the applicant must submit an application for special arrangements immediately to the admissions office of the academy in charge of organising the entrance examination. Uniarts Helsinki may reject the application for special arrangements, if the arrangements would be impossible to carry out due to lack of time. The decision concerning special arrangements is programme-specific and the decision is valid only on a specific entrance examination day.
