The night is the time of fairytales and stars. The concert’s theme is built around the paradox of the bright night and the fact that stars are often brightest in the darkest night. The rarely heard Nuit Calme by Bosmans is followed by Barber and Chopin on a journey into Romanticism and a celebration of virtuosity. After the intermission, the night falls again with Janáček’s Fairy Tale, and the concert concludes with Tarja Valkonen’s Wounded Angel.
Programme
Henriëtte Bosmans: Nuit Calme (1926)
Samuel Barber, Sonata for cello and piano, Op. 6 (1932)
