The autumn term of the Sibelius Academy Symphony Orchestra culminates in Mendelssohn’s oratorio Elijah, one of the greatest and most popular choral works in the history of music. The performances are jointly organised with the Kuopio unit of the Sibelius Academy, and it also marks the revitalisation of the Sibelius Academy Chorus. The libretto is dramatic, drawn from the Old Testament. One of its key themes is the clash of religions, a topic that remains relevant today. The performance will involve several voice students from the Sibelius Academy as soloists under conductor Nils Schweckendiek. Performed in German.
