CANCELLED: Tuomas J. Turunen Trio feat. Manuel Dunkel: Changing the focus
In the early days of jazz, pianists used their left hand much more actively, because they also played bass lines. Today, the right hand is much more prominent, and Turunen acknowledges that he is no different from other jazz pianists in this respect. It is time to shift focus from right to left. Turunen’s recital features a cross-section of the left-hand styles found on prominent jazz recordings made in the 1960s. It was at that time that pioneers of the modern jazz piano such as Bill Evans, Herbie Hancock and McCoy Tyner laid the groundwork for the present jazz piano style. Turunen explores their left-hand techniques and the impact of these on today’s pianists.
Manuel Dunkel, saxophones
Tuomas J. Turunen, piano
Jori Huhtala, bass
Tuomas Timonen, drums
