Lord of the Rings – Academy Winds and the Guards Band, cond. Anna-Maria Helsing

Saturday, March 17, 2018 - 16:00 to 17:45
Music Centre, Konserttisali / Konsertsalen / Concert Hall
Tickets: 11-32€
The Guards Band and the Academy Winds join forces under Anna-Maria Helsing at the National Wind Music Festival.

The very latest in symphonic band music will be featured, with the premiere of the winning entry in the overture composition competition organised by the Defence Forces; the winner will be announced in January 2018. There is also a world premiere from Paavo Heininen and the titillating Saxophone Concerto of Jukka Linkola. The soloist, Perttu Nurkka, was selected from among students at the Sibelius Academy by audition in autumn 2017. The concluding number is Johan de Meij’s expansive symphonic work inspired by characters and story of the Lord of the Rings epic by J.R.R. Tolkien, transporting listeners to Middle-Earth. The concert forms part of the programme of the National Wind Music Festival: puhallinpaivat.fi (in Finnish)
