Young Artists of the Winter: New currents
It allows performers great artistic freedom and also interaction with the composer. In addition to performing music written in the 21st century and one world premiere, the duo takes a look at the past and establishes a dialogue across the ages, linking new works with songs from the 12th and 16th centuries and with British 20th-century classics that established the viola as a solo and chamber music instrument in its own right. New currents sometimes stem from old streams, from things that already exist. Therefore, in this programme as in life itself, everything is connected to everything else.
Young Artists of the Winter is a concert series featuring recent graduates of the Sibelius Academy with excellent academic merits. As with Young Artists of the Summer, the purpose of the concert series is to find a new angle on the time-honoured tradition of the début recital. Each recital reflects the performer’s profile, expressive desires and artistic vision.
