Soprano Olga Heikkilä and pianist Stefan Schreiber enter into the world of Cathy Berberian.

An american-Italian mezzosoprano and composer Cathy Berberian (1925-1983) premiered many works by avant-garde composers and single-handedly fostered a new approach to the singing voice as an instrument. Berberian was also famous for her soirées, where she combined arrangements of Baroque, contemporary and popular music with classical numbers, always with a twinkle in the eye.

This concert features a similar programme, including Stripsody written by Berberian and Baroque arrangements commissioned by her of Beatles songs. The scarlet thread of the programme is speech-song, particularly prominent in the declaimed songs written by William Walton.
