MuTeFest 2018: Mobile Sonic Walks -kävelydemonstraatio
The visitor downloads an application on his/her mobile device, puts headphones on and walks through the Töölönlahti area listening to site-specific compositions specially tailored to follow paths around the area. Taking advantage of the GPS technology, these paths lead you to places fomenting the dwelling and eventually discovering hidden corners, monuments, histories.
The technology is developed by SoundWays and the collective MU in Paris. The whole enables a new kind of listening experience that can be called deambulatory listening and a new kind of composition practice for creating such experience.
The compositions are created by the students of the Media and Sonic Arts course lead by Marianne Decoster-Taivalkoski at the Music Technology Department. In this course as teachers, we have had the visit of Jean-Philippe Renoult, Ana Parra and Josué Moreno, each of them conducting the course to emphasize different pedagogical aspects that this technology brings.
Demo of the Mobile Sonic Walks around Töölönlahti, launched at the entrance of the Sibelius Academy, Helsinki Music Centre, Töölönlahdenkatu 16 C. Take your mobile phone and headphones with you.
