Jazz quintet that plays modern and Nordic jazz composed and arranged by Emmi Uimonen.
Emmi U. Quintet is a jazz quintet that plays modern and Nordic jazz composed and arranged by Uimonen, a student studying in the Sibelius Academy’s Global Music Programme.

Uimonen’s music is characterised by the dreamlike atmosphere of classical impressionism, long, wistful melodies inspired by nature, and echoes of Latin-American rhythmics. The story told with instruments will also feature vocals on some of the compositions, with themes such as love and feminism.

Throughout the concert, the audience is treated to drops of existential melancholy, melodies played with violin and the saxophone (solo or together) and improvisation.

Emmi U. Quintet will record their debut album in May 2019.

Emmi Karoliina Uimonen, piano, compositions, vocals Jesse Vilhomaa, alto saxophone Robbie Sherratt, violin Tuomas Talvi, double bass Erik Fräki, drums

Feel Helsinki is a new urban festival for the whole family, taking place at the Helsinki Music Centre on 8 June. Uniarts Helsinki organises well over a thousand events for the public on a yearly basis, but Feel Helsinki is the first opportunity to enjoy the talents of the university’s students and alumni in one place through a day-long event. The festival has program that is especially tailored for children.

Feel Helsinki invites people to come together and engage all of their senses by enjoying food, wine, art and meaningful discussions. The main partner in the event is the Viini magazine, which will turn the Helsinki Music Centre into a hub of interesting pop-up restaurants, offering delicious menus.
