Sibelius Academy Symphony Orchestra, cond. Hannu Lintu
Hannu Lintu, Visiting Professor at the conducting class of the Sibelius Academy, appears with the Sibelius Academy Symphony Orchestra after a hiatus of a few years.
The concert opens with Beethoven. Second work on the programme is the grandiose and carnival-like Flounce by Lotta Wennäkoski, premiered at the BBC’s traditional Last Night of the Proms in 2017. The third work on the programme is a Viola Concerto by William Walton. The soloist, Annariina Jokela, was selected from among viola students at the Sibelius Academy by audition in spring 2018. The concert concludes with Sibelius’s lucid Sixth Symphony.
