Global Fest 2018: Kaisa Siirala – Inhale, Exhale
The concert evokes sounds heard during travels to India and beyond. Kaisa Siirala applies elements of Hindustani musical concepts in her own music, and her compositions draw inspiration particularly from musical cultures of the East.
Kaisa has studied the Hindustani tradition and Indian bansuri flute during several trips to India. This experience enabled her to hear music in totally news ways, which has had a profound impact on her playing and composing.
In this concert, Kaisa Siirala is investigating the relationship between tradition, improvisation, composition and innovation. What happens when the core source of inspiration is coming from a culture that is not your own and how is this transformed and integrated into your own compositional voice and expression as a musician?
This concert is Kaisa Siirala's final recital for the Nordic Master of Global Music, GLOMAS.
