Conductor Eiji Ōue, known for his energetic and passionate interpretations, conducts the Sibelius Academy Symphony Orchestra. Descended from a family of samurai, Ōue settled in Germany in the 2000s and has for many years been Artistic Director of the NDR Radio Symphony Orchestra and Professor of Conducting at the Musikhochschule Hannover. This concert project is part of a cultural exchange programme: about half of the members of the orchestra here are students at the Musikhochschule Hannover, spending a week in Finland to become acquainted with Finnish music. The project continues in Germany in the following week, when the orchestra will be performing with Atso Almila, Professor of Conducting and Orchestral Training at the Sibelius Academy.
