First Round of the International Maj Lind Piano Competition
According to the rules the repertoire of the First Round is as follows:
1) A programme of music composed before 1757
2) An entire work by Beethoven, Clementi, Dussek, Haydn, Hummel, Mozart or Schubert
3) Three etudes, one from each of the following groups:
a. Chopin
b. Alkan, Bartók, Debussy, Liszt, Prokofiev, Rachmaninov, Saint-Saëns, Scriabin, Stravinsky
c. An etude composed after 1970
4) A programme of the contestant’s own choice
International Maj Lind Competition 14-27 October 2022
The high-profile International Maj Lind Piano Competition will be bringing around 40 young keyboard virtuosi from all over the world to Helsinki in October. The lucky competition applicants will play a wide selection of familiar works by composers ranging from Beethoven to Sibelius and from Rachmaninov to Chopin, but also more recent repertoire. The contestants successful in the exciting first two rounds will proceed to the Chamber Music Final. The competition will culminate in Orchestral Finals at the Helsinki Music Centre in which the best six contestants will perform a piano concerto with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra.
