I notice that I struggle with anonymity. I ask myself why. I turn to other artists who crossed borders and left a mark. I list their names and itineraries. Their itineraries lead me to this work.
The event is the middle part of the performance tryptic unraveling the connection of a migrating body to a place, its affects and touch. First piece of the tryptic happened in Merihaka in September in a form of the one-day 41st National Park of Finland and the third one will be a part of the LAPS 20 event in Vantaa in November.
These works are an unfinished game made through pondering upon feelings toward a geographical place, its borders, languages and moving bodies. It is a quest into learning about patriotism very intimately – by tracking the marks that my artist’s body leaves, and the marks left on my body. The marks gesture toward a map of a place. I track a mark to its beginning and do not recognize it. This work is about not recognizing that which used to be familiar and lingering in the unknown.
