Global Fest: Wishamalii
This new band weaves a unique musical texture with its own compositions and special arrangements of the classics of Arabic music.
Contrary to previous information, the composition of the trio has changed to a duo. Nemat Battah misses out due to illness.
The band consists of singer and oud player Nemat Battah, a Jordanian-Palestinian who has found her home in Finland, pianist-composer Kari Ikonen, who has been studying Arabic music for a long time, and Ethiopian-born Mamba Assefa, one of Finland’s most popular percussionists. Pianist Ikonen has invented a revolutionary micro-tuning device, the Maqiano, which allows various Maqam modes of Arabic music to be played on the piano!
Performers
- Kari Ikonen, Piano
- Nemat Battah, oud, vocals (not participating due to illness)
- Abdissa ”Mamba” Assefa, percussion
