Klo 16 Global Youth Project Performance with ESTRADA Music and Dance School

Two Global music teachers and seven Global master students and almost 30 young musicians from Estrada music school came together to form a creative community for a weekend. The project was organized as a part of Junior Academy’s regional teaching visits.

The students experienced new cultures, time signatures, scales and ways of learning music. The end result, “The Whale” , is a collaborative creation where students have been writing lyrics and melodies, creating soundscapes and accompaniment patterns to complete the piece. The participants creative collaboration was inspired and based on a composition written by Merve Abdurrahmani, master student of the Global Music Department.

Junior Academy regional teaching visits

The idea is to send Sibelius Academy teachers for regional visits to music institutions in different parts of Finland. Visits have often been executed as weekend-long master classes, which sometimes are finished with public concerts where the audience can hear the results of the teaching. The activity is aimed at young musicians of all ages and levels and can be applied for with any instrument and in any style (classical, jazz, folk, global music). Approximately 25 visits are made during each academic year and teaching visits are planned based on the needs of each hosting community.

Klo 17 Arabic Ensemble and Haneen Choir
