Alcina (1735) is a three-act opera by Georg Friedrich Händel based on a story from the epic poem Orlando furioso by Ludovico Ariosto.

As the story begins, Alcina the sorceress has charmed a knight named Ruggiero, making him fall in love with her and stay on her enchanted island. Elsewhere, Ruggiero’s fiancée Bradamante finds out where he is, disguises herself as a man and sets off to save him. But then Morgana, Alcina’s sister, falls madly in love with the disguised Bradamante. The result is a classical drama full of disguises, misunderstandings, sorcery, romance and wonderful arias.
