Creative Music Making in Schools

An on-going study Creative muisc making in schools (Musiikin luova tuottaminen kouluissa), conducted among music teachers in comprehensive and upper secondary schools in Finland, aims to generate new knowledge about the teaching of songwriting, improvisation, remixing and other forms of composing; the use of music technology and related tools and skills available for teachers; and teachers' need of pedagogical support.

The results gained through a nationwide survey and interviews provide not only an extensive picture of the current situation in schools, but are also believed to contribute to efforts to develop music teacher programmes that will better equip pre-service music teachers to effectively teach a broad array of learners to high standards in the rapidly changing and increasingly digitised 21st century settings.
