Hello there and glad you found your way to this blog! I’m Maiju and I’m currently studying in the arts management master programme in Sibelius Academy. I will be blogging about my studies at the University of the Arts and all things related.
I started my studies at the University of the Arts during in fall 2013. Applying was a long-term dream of mine but I always thought I needed more cultural related work experience in order to actually send the application. When Sibelius-Academy published infos about people who had attended the programme on their website, I realized that they weren’t such superhumans as I had thought. I filled the application – and received a thick letter in July.
Previously I have studied musicology and graduated from the University of Helsinki in 2012. I have also worked in the Finnish theatre and music festival field for years now, but I would say my background is in music.
So far I would say that these studies have been the best decision of my life, an eye-opener, if you will. I’ve had great courses that have helped me at work already. I’ve had great visiting lecturers from all over the world and I’ve enjoyed the international atmosphere of the programme. I’ve also participated our study trips – one of them even took us to New York where we visited local arts institutions. Interested? Stay tuned for more!
Also, note that on March 25th the University of the Arts has Open House Day. This means that you are able to experience all three academies (Sibelius Academy, Academy of Fine Arts and Theatre Academy) with the help of free events, tours and pop-up shows. Arts management is also present so please meet us at the Music Centre.
