GLOMUS Camp 2017 started in Natal, Brazil


The fifth GLOMUS Camp intensive course organized by the GLOMUS Network started today on January 11th in Natal. The ten-day Camp has approximately 140 participants from over 25 different countries. Both Sibelius Academy and Theatre Academy have sent students and teachers to take part in the Camp.

The opening day included official welcomes from the hosting institution, Universidade do Rio Grande do Norte, as well as an introduction of GLOMUS Network. The hosting institution also presented the history of Brazilian music and dance culture for the participants. The opening day started also the actual programme of the Camp - The core of the GLOMUS Camp are the activities called the small and large groups that have different cultural approaches to music, theatre and dance. In addition to these activities, the participants of the camp get to share their own cultural backgrounds in regional presentations and “Oficinas” where they can focus for example on a certain instrument or a dance style.

The opening day was concluded with an opening concert open for audience where over 600 spectators attended. The concert included a piece that was prepared by the Pre-Camp project including GLOMAS and music education students from Sibelius Academy and Royal Academy of Music Aarhus/Aalborg and dance students from The Danish National School of Performing Arts. During the Pre-Camp project the students were working with the local teenagers and children who are part of the hosting institution’s outreach programme.

The 5th GLOMUS Camp is inviting 140 students and professionals from 23 music institutions from 20 countries to Natal, Brazil in January 2017. The international camp is organized together by the Sibelius Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki (Finland), Royal Academy of Music Aarhus/Aalborg (Denmark) and Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (Brazil). University of the Arts Helsinki is represented in the camp by 19 students and staff. More information:
