Profile participants

The Van Eyck welcomes promising and established artists, writers, curators, and thinkers. Every applicant shares our belief that insight comes through exchange with other: insight in the meaning of things, in your own practice, in the (art) world. Besides working in your own studio, you are expected to take an active part in the Van Eyck programme, to participate in one of the Mirror projects and to be involved in one or more In-Labs.

* Duo's or collectives are also welcome to apply; they share 1 spot at the Van Eyck

A studio of your own

At the Van Eyck you have a studio of your own to write proposals, work on your project, investigate. In our view, the studio equals the classic vita contemplativa. The programme stands for the vita activa. Both are correlated and as such strike a perfect balance.

The programme

The programme is the sum total of the general programme and several more specific programmes. The generic programme consists of regular studio visits by advisors and guest, of lectures, debates, presentations. The specific programmes comprise what happens in the Labs, the In-Labs, the Mirror Lab and what you individually contribute and develop. Leitmotif of the annual programme is set by the artistic and content related needs of the participants.

In-Lab

The In-Labs are modules established by like-minded participants. An In-Lab offers you the opportunity to join together over shared curiosities and urgent questions, to study something in depth, and/or broaden your critical views. It is the occasion to enhance your knowledge of and skills in your own field of expertise, or, on the contrary, within another discipline. Guests from outside can be invited to add to the working of the In-Labs, and (public) events are often organised to expand the In-Labs breadth. This makes the In-Lab a unique elaboration of the Van Eyck programme, both for outside audiences and all participants.

Living accommodation

The Van Eyck can assist in finding a room in Maastricht. Renting a room through the Van Eyck amounts to around €350 a month.

Language of communication

Participants at the Van Eyck come from all over the world. The languages of communication at the academy are Dutch and English. We expect you to master the English language sufficiently to be able to converse and collaborate with the participants and staff members.

Agreement of collaboration

When you enroll as a participant at the Van Eyck an agreement of collaboration will be effected. This agreement states all the details concerning your stay, working period, the policies of the academy and mutual rights and duties. Once you have signed this agreement your working period at the Van Eyck can take a start.

Call for applications - ISCP – International Studio & Curatorial Program New York
Deadline: March 31st 2017
Start date of residency: January 1st 2017

The International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP) supports the creative development of artists and curators, and promotes exchange through residencies and public programs. Housed in a former factory in Brooklyn, with 35 light-filled work studios, two galleries, and a project space, ISCP is New York’s most comprehensive international visual arts residency program, founded in 1994. ISCP organizes exhibitions, events and offsite projects, which are free and open to all, sustaining a vibrant community of contemporary art practitioners and diverse audiences. Over 1,900 artists and curators from more than 62 countries, including the United States have undertaken residencies at ISCP.

Residency program

At the International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP) each artist and curator is provided with a private and furnished studio space and 24-hour access to all communal facilities. Residents at ISCP are encouraged to take advantage of the in-house community of artists and curators, offering invaluable international connections, professional conversations and critique. While in the program, all residents are invited to participate in a number of activities in and outside of ISCP including the four core program activities: Visiting Critics, Field Trips, Salons and Open Studios.

Visiting Critics

The Visiting Critic series is the hallmark of ISCP's residency program. It introduces residents to professionals from museums, galleries, alternative spaces and publications within the context of a studio visit, generating critical feedback from diverse positions.

Field Trips

ISCP organizes visits to museums, galleries, alternative spaces, archives and other places of interest to art professionals. Often, a curator or staff member introduces the institution’s mission and program. Past Field Trips have included the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Conservation Department at MoMA, Dia:Beacon, CCS Bard, Art Omi, art spaces in SoHo and on the Lower East Side, private collections and many other institutions in Greater New York.

Salons

Residents at ISCP are invited to present their recent work in semi-monthly public Salons. ISCP Salons feature film screenings, performances, installations and lectures and introduce the work of ISCP artists and curators to the New York art community.

Open Studios

Twice a year, in April and November, ISCP hosts three-day long Open Studios, presenting work by the 35 ISCP artists and curators in residence, accompanied by performances, panel discussions and exhibitions. During Open Studios, residents present recent projects, work in progress, site-specific installations and their archives to over 2,000 professionals and art enthusiasts from New York and beyond.
