Arabialainen, juutalainen ja kristillinen musiikkiperinne kohtaavat.

Sacred Music on Middle-East Music -kurssin päätöskonsertti, jossa arabialainen, juutalainen ja kristillinen musiikkiperinne kohtaa. Konsertissa esiintyvät Lily Solomonov, Burdan Hamdon, Mouafak Barafi, Matti Turunen ja Sibelius-Akatemian Kuopion yksikön opiskelijat.

Konsertin järjestää Taideyliopiston Sibelius-Akatemian Kuopion yksikkö. Konsertti toteutetaan yhteistyössä Fokus ry:n ja Männistön seurakunnan kanssa.

Lily Solomonov, Conductor, Singer

Originally from Israel (b. 1990), is at her last year of the Master’s Degree in Choir Conducting at Sibelius Academy. In her youth, she began to sing in the Efroni Choir, which was established thanks to the Finnish children choir- Tapiola. She graduated from the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance with two bachelors- singing and conducting. Here in Finland she´s the conductor of the female choir Primavera, and a music teacher for singing and piano.

Burhan Hamdon, Singer, Musician

Born in Homs, Syria in 1964. At the age of three, Burhan was enrolled at a Quran school where he learnt the recitation. At age of nine, he joined sufi circles and was a member of the quire of sufi circles. In his childhood, he was not allowed to listen, play or sing with any music instruments other than bandir.  Therefore, he was concentrating more on singing.

Burhan started singing with musical instruments in 1996 when he joined Al-Teslim ensemble in Finland led by Mr. Leif Karlson. Since then his music carrier started to rise. Burhan has travelled to Cairo, Tunis and Fez to get more of musical training on improvisation and Andalucian music. He is the soloist of various bands in Finland in addition to Al-Teslim and he has performed nationally and internationally on big stages. 

Burhan was involved in different projects to introduce Arabic music to Finnish children, and recently supporting asylum seekers and refugee musicians to perform in Finland.  He is considered the most distinguished Arabic music singer in Finland.

Mouafak Barafi, Violinist, Composer

Syrian violinist arrived to Finland as a refugee in 2016. In Syria, Mr. Barafi was the first violinist at the Syrian Radio Orchestra, and the leader of various musical bands. He has performed with major Arab singers, toured with them around the world, and performed on the most prestigious stages. He has inherited his skills from his teacher Aboud abdel Aal who was one the best violinist in the Arab World.

In Finland, Mr. Barafi has joined Hyvinkää orchestra and performed with them. He has also established together with Burhan Hamdon Oriental Tunes, band for Arabic classical music.

Matti Turunen, Oopperalaulaja, kanttori

Turunen on joensuulainen kanttori, äänialaltaan basso. Hän on valmistunut Sibelius-Akatemiasta musiikin maisteriksi vuonna 2014. Vuosina 2008–2010 hän oli solistiharjoittelijana Suomen Kansallisoopperassa. Hän on esiintynyt solistina useissa Kansallisoopperan sekä Savonlinnan oopperajuhlien tuotannoissa. Kausina 2014–2016 Turunen lauloi Suomen Kansallisoopperan kuorossa II bassoa.

Turunen on laulanut orkesterien solistina esimerkiksi teoksissa Beethovenin 9. sinfonia, Mozartin Requiem, Mozartin Kruunajaismessu, Bachin Johannes-passio (Jeesus ja bassoaariat) ja Dvořákin Requiem.

Sävellyksiä: Nuoren uskon messu (1997), Rauhan messu – Service of Peace (2004). Matti Turunen johtaa tällä hetkellä mm. Haagan seurakunnan Lähde-kuoroa ja Joensuun seurakuntien aikuisten kuoroja.
