Uniarts Helsinki Admitted 290 New Students
The admission results of the University of the Arts Helsinki are now available. The university admitted 290 new Bachelor’s and Master’s degree students, out of which 25 were admitted to the Academy of Fine Arts, 197 to the Sibelius Academy, and 68 to the Theatre Academy. The University of the Arts Helsinki is one of the most sought-after schools in Finland, as approximately merely 8 % of the applicants were admitted to the school. Out of all the selected students, 98 % had listed the University of the Arts Helsinki as their first choice in their Joint application to higher education.
The university received a total of 3,969 applications to Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree programmes (the number of applicants was 3,572). Out of the applications, 703 were to the Academy of Fine Arts, 1500 to the Sibelius Academy, and 1760 to the Theatre Academy. The next application period for the master studies at the Academy of Fine Arts will open not until autumn 2017.
Out of the applicants who got accepted into a programme leading to a Bachelor’s and/or a Master’s degree, 74 % were first-time applicants or applicants who are regarded as first-time applicants.
The most popular programmes were Degree Programme in Acting in Finnish (1,202 applications / 14 selected), the 5.5.-year programme of the Academy of Fine Arts (703/25), Classical Music Performance with an instrument as the main subject (396/71) and Music Education (251/30).
The obligation to charge tuition fees from students coming from outside EU and EEA countries did not have a significant effect on the number of international applicants to Uniarts Helsinki.
The number of admitted students from non-EU countries was as high as 29, which sets a new Uniarts Helsinki record.
The number of applicants and selected students varies every year, as all programmes do not admit new students each year.
