International Jazz Voice Conference in Helsinki for the second time

The Sibelius Academy jazz music department is organising, for the second time, a conference focusing on jazz voice. The second ever International Jazz Voice Conference is held in the Helsinki Music Centre on October 6th to 8th 2017. The invited keynote presenters are Deborah Brown, Darmon Meader, Farah Jasmine Griffin. Judy Niemack has been invited as a special guest to the event.

This conference, focusing on the  jazz singing and its research, is unique in nature. It was initiated in 2015 as a networking platform for jazz voice professionals and all other interested parties around the world. During this year's conference's lectures, lecture-concerts, panel discussions and workshops, the participants will focus on for example on the styles of specific jazz vocalists, the influences in and the position of jazz voice in different cultures and countries and also on the role of a jazz vocalist in different ensembles and on arranging for the jazz voice. The conference will feature 27 presenters and participants from over 15 countries.

In connection to the conference, Darmon Meader and Deborah Brown will perform in an evening concert on October 7th with a Finnish ensemble at the Helsinki Music Centre.
