Global Fest 2017: Arja Paju – Shared sound, searching for connections
Are musical connections deepened if we dare to step out from behind our instruments and meet as equal human beings, armed only with our bodies, voices, emotions, playfulness and creativity? Can we expand the idea of an instrumentalist through integrating movement and singing with our playing of instruments? Arja Paju has been researching methods that promote holistic musicianship, collaboration and playfulness. The composition and rehearsal process of this concert has been greatly influenced by these methods. All of the compositions draw on African or Latin American rhythmic cultures as their starting point and inspiration.
