Performance: El Mahdi Rezoug (aka El Mahdy Jr.), Films by Maja Rezoug - Ghost Tapes

'Ghost tapes is a composition of everyday fragments based on found tapes, field recordings, beats and radio frequencies. Aruff attempt of interpreting the cultural ghost that surrounds the field and makes the difference between place and space.'

EL MAHDI REZOUG (Algeria)

El Mahdi Rezoug (also known as El Mahdy Jr.) creates haunting collages of sound, drawing from influences from everyday life. His work relies heavily on sampling and he stitches together a continuum of influences, tracing a lineage through his own personal history and the places that inspire him. Elements such as Arabesk music, UK Soundsystem and Rap are all apparent in his work. He grew up in the Algerian province of Sidi Bel Abbès in the 1990s, and his music reflects the conflicts and incoherencies of modern society. He often performs live and has published a lot of his music on the Internet and on vinyl.
