Ksenia Yurkova: Empty Expectations

Friday, February 17, 2017 - 11:00 to Sunday, March 12, 2017 - 18:00
Exhibition Laboratory
Näyttely

In her exhibition Empty Expectations on the 2nd floor of Exhibiton Laboratory space, artist Ksenia Yurkova presents photography, video, objects and performance. This project manifests itself as a complex, multi-layered construction, a conglomeration of interrupted narratives, reflections on the material, stereotypes about the image – all mixed with the ironic pathos of seriousness.

Ksenia Yurkova (b. 1984) is a Russian artist currently based in Helsinki. She works primarily with photography, video and artist’s books. The main focus of her interest is language: the varieties of its substance, the possibility of conversion, its mythological aspect, stereotyping (the question of personal and political self-identification and identification by others), problems of memory, attitudes, and reliance.

Ksenia Yurkova has taken part in numerous festivals worldwide: Kolga Tbilisi Photo (GE), Openborder Festival (NL), Athens Photo Festival (GR), PhotoEspana (ES), Grand Prix Fotofestival (PL), Kassel Photobook Festival (DE) and had solo shows in Russia, Hungary, and Iceland. At the moment she is studying towards her MFA at the Academy of Fine Arts of Uniarts Helsinki.

Welcome to the exhibition opening on Thursday, February 16 at 5-7pm!

Finissage performance on Sunday, March 12 at 3pm

For this performance the artist kindly asks you to donate your spare pieces of clothes. You can bring them any day you like to the Black Box (2nd floor, video-projection room) and leave them on the floor without a bag.
