Liisa Karintaus, Anniina Vainionpää
Opening on Wednesday 30.8. 17-19. Welcome!
Summer Night and A Bird of Paradise is a joint MFA thesis exhibition of Liisa Karintaus and Anniina Vainionpää from the Academy of Fine Arts of Uniarts Helsinki. The exhibition consists of woodcuts and monotypes on paper and paintings on canvas and board. The work of both artists combine organized and more improvised phases which create depth to the visual appearance of the artwork. The mutual theme is observing nature and landscape and the choice of colour.
The paintings of Liisa Karintaus (born 1977) are done with organic substances researched with curiosity. The works painted with watercolour, crayon, tempera and oil colour play out as collages and they combine different surfaces and colours to the theme of nature and light. Karintaus is fascinated by natural materials because of the life in them and the way they change, either quickly or slowly. The softness and flexibility and references to the nature bring substance to the paintings. Karintaus has studied earlier in the University of Lapland and is currently MFA student in the Academy of Fine Arts of Uniarts Helsinki. The works in this exhibition are a continuem to her works in the Kuvan Kevät MFA Degree Show in May 2017.
Anniina Vainionpää (born 1979) is Riihimäki based visual artist. She has graduated from the South Karelia University of Applied Sciences and is currently MFA student in the Academy of Fine Arts of Uniarts Helsinki. Her work has been seen earlier in exhibitions both Finland and abroad. The MFA thesis artwork deal with the passing of her mother, passing of time and oblivion. ”Oblivion is also a blessing: you forget to be unhappy, you forget your anger and injustice. But what happens when I am forgotten or when I, in turn, forget?” she reflects. The works in this exhibition are a continuem to her ”A black dress and other items” series shown in Kuvan Kevät MFA Degree Exhibition in May 2017.
